After a 4 hour drive to Chicago, 15 hours of flying, an overnight in Hong Kong and a ferry to Zhongshan, we finally arrived at our temporary home Saturday morning. The rest of the day passed in a blur as we fought our way through the jet lag. By the time Sunday rolled around, we were able to think clearly and walk through our training manual for the next 3 weeks. A coffee shop around the corner from us served as the perfect meeting place. Later in the afternoon on Sunday, the primary teachers from last year's English camp organized a picnic in one of the local parks. We had a fabulous time meeting new friends and hearing about their experience from the camp. They obviously adored their trainers and have themselves become a close group of friends.
We have just finished our first morning of English camp with 90 new teachers. The teachers were amazing at participating in our morning activities and working to get to know the trainers and their fellow classmates for our time together. Many of the teachers in the camp this year have friends and colleagues that attended last year and are ready to work hard. We started our get to know you activities with a wordle, where they were asked to write 5 nouns and 5 adjectives that describe them and share with their colleagues. This afternoon will be the start of our afternoon workshops, free talk time and later this evening our first English Corner.
It has been an incredible start to our trip, and we look forward to even more stories to share in the days to come!
